More than 1 million Aussies cruise each year

Australian Cruises

Ocean to outback exploration

Kirsty Eccles CLIA Cruise Master

Cruising is such a great way to explore Australia

You can see so much of Australia by ocean and river, so ditch the car, park the caravan and skip the airport to join more than 1 million Aussie’s who cruise each year for a truly memorable travel experience in your own backyard.

Our country is full of cosmopolitan cities and diverse landscapes that can be reached by cruise vessels. You’ll unpack only once, enjoy relaxation and excitement onboard and ashore, and probably stop in places you may have missed otherwise.

Cruise the eastern coast

Head north to watch the sun set along the tropical coastline where the rainforest meets the sea in a spectacular way. Soak up the sun on a pristine beach, explore dense eco-systems full of beauty and marvel at marine creatures while snorkelling the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef.

From here you can cruise the Kimberly’s region – a stunning archipelago of waterfalls, gorges and chasms. Smaller cruise vessels including Coral Expeditions, Kimberley Quest and MS Caledonian Sky offer sailings from April to October. Be sure to plan ahead as they are extremely popular and can book out early.

Cruise the western coast

Out West you will discover stunning wineries, fields of fresh Spring wildflowers, lush forests and the granite cliffs of Albany. Cruise this region with the smaller yet comfortable CMV’s Summer based vessel, Astor.

P&O Australia and Princess Cruises call into Geraldton & Exmouth at times where you can snorkel the amazing ‘Ningaloo Reef’ at Coral Bay. If your timing is right you can swim with Whale Sharks and Manta Rays also.

Cruise down south

Down South is The Great Australian bite and pristine Kangaroo Island, full of diverse flora and fauna, scrumptious fresh produce and expansive scenery.

A quick stop in Adelaide will provide you with easy access to world famous wineries in the Barossa, Clare Valley and McLaren Vale wine regions. From here you can also take a peek at the German inspired town of Hanhdorf in the Adelaide Hills.

Ocean liners depart from  various Australian ports. P&O Australia, Princess Cruises and Carnival offer year-round cruising, while Royal Caribbean & Holland America have vessels based here between October and April. Between January and March, many of the worlds’ other cruise lines stop by Australian ports as they navigate the globe.

If river cruising is you preference we highly recommend Captain Cook Cruises, departing from Murray Bridge in South Australia. They will take you on a journey of discovery along the mighty Murray River aboard a traditional paddle steamer.
